Equinox: Poetry and Prose

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • We accept fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry submissions.
  • We are happy to consider simultaneous submissions so long as we are notified immediately if they are accepted elsewhere.
  • We do not consider reprints of any kind, this includes material which has previously appeared online in any format, including personal blogs and websites.

FICTION

  • Between 250 and 5,000 words.
  • Please only send one short story (above 1,000 words) or three flash fiction pieces (1,000 words or less) at a time. Submissions which do not adhere to this guideline, or which contains stories which fall outside of our word limits will be deleted unread.
  • We are not interested in science fiction, horror, or genre fiction. We understand that a lot of very good material gets published in those fields, but we’re not the place for it.
  • We strongly prefer character driven stories.
  • We will consider novel excerpts so long as the excerpt works as a stand-alone piece.
  • Please ensure that all submissions are double spaced.

CREATIVE NONFICTION

  • Between 250 and 5,000 words.
  • Please only send one short story (above 1,000 words) or three micro essays (1,000 words or less) at a time. Submissions which do not adhere to this guideline, or which contains stories which fall outside of our word limits will be deleted unread.
  • We prefer pieces that combine strong storytelling with personal reflection.
  • Submissions must be narrative, we do not publish political, or historical or other non-narrative essays.
  • Please ensure that all submissions are double spaced.

POETRY

  • Send up to five poems. Individual poems should be 50 lines or less.
  • We accept translations of currently living poets, so long as the translator has their permission.

COVER LETTERS

  • We encourage contributors to include a brief cover letter highlighting their publication credits, awards, educational background, or other professional achievements.
